What would you do if you lost $10 million on a bet?

Jim McIngvale, the Houston mattress salesman, better known as “Mattress Mack” is hurting this morning after putting $9.5 million on the Bengals to win Super Bowl LVI. As we all know, the Bengals didn’t pull through and now the Houston furniture maven is out a cool ten mil. How absurd is that? I get beeched when I lose anything more than ten dollars, I couldn’t imagine losing ten million on a single bet.

But that’s not all, here’s the biggest attention grabber from the article, “The loss, on top of losses on Alabama in the national title game and future bets on the New England Patriots and Tennessee Titans, has resulted in $18 million in betting losses since the calendar turned to 2022.”

18 million?!?! Since January 1st?!?! Mattress Mack is a fucking animal. Do you know how much of a degenerate gambler you have to be to lose $8.5 million in thirty days and then double it in a day?According to celebritynetworth.com, McIngvale is worth 300 Million (which is ridiculous for a mattress salesman, but that’s for another blog, this guy’s gotta be using this mattress business to launder money somehow). Imagine losing 30% of your net worth in one bet? Apparently, this guy is a Houston legend. Just check out this video Vice did on him a few years back.

He also used his big bet as a sales pitch to Houstonians looking for a deal on mattresses by saying that if the Bengals won, any customer who spent $3,000 or more at their store would get their money back (hell that’s a great way to cover your losses, just get your customers to do it for you). Maybe there is a method to Mattress Mack’s madness? He said that the past two weeks in his store have been “beyond booming.”

I did the math, the average mattress sells at Gallery Furniture for about $1750. This means that Mattress Mack would have to sell 5,715 mattresses in order to make his money back (or at least break even, I don’t know much profit Mack pulls in from each mattress). That’s an insane amount of mattresses.

Mattress Mack seems to be doing just fine. All I gotta say to Mattress Mack is if you’re looking for a new place to toss some cash you really don’t care about losing, I’ve got a dwindling bank account that could definitely use some padding. Throw some dough my way. If your mattresses aren’t enough to help you sleep easy, giving your money to me definitely will.
