Three nights ago, I woke up at 2am in a freezing tremor. My lips were chattering, balls shrunk inside me, I was bundled under my comforter, yet there was absolutely, not a sense of warmth to be found. In the morning, I discovered my roommates had set the apartment temperature to sixty degrees. 60!!! What the hell?!? Im apartment terms, that’s borderline antarctic. How can anyone sleep inside a fucking Costco Freezer?!?
Then, two nights later, I woke up drenched in a pool of my own sweat, tossing and turning, eternally unable to find the cool side of the pillow. To my surprise in the morning, I checked my apartment’s thermostat to see it was set to 78 degrees. No, no, no. This is unacceptable, what is it? The Amazon rainforest? 78 is wayyyyy too hot of a temperature to sleep, let alone live.
Finally, last night, I took control and set the thermostat to a modest seventy-two… and let me just say, it was immaculate. Best sleep, I got all week. I threw on a sweatshirt and slept like a baby. 71/72 degrees Fahrenheit, at least right now during the fall cooling off period, is the most perfect sleep temperature. I could throw my cozy comforter over me without feeling like I’m suffocating in warmth, yet I also wasn’t trembling shivering like a bum sleeping on a beach.
72 is the way to go and I’ll challenge anyone who sleeps in the freezing cold blast of the A/C or the toasty fire-pits of a heater.
