A new trailer for the upcoming The Batman dropped on Saturday, and fans of the franchise are hyped about the new cinematic direction that the caped crusader is headed. With its gritty tone, gothic scenery, and star-studded cast, it’s looking like this may be the best Batman film since Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy. Robert Pattinson, who is playing Bruce Wayne himself, also looks and sounds great. The actor has come a long way since his Twighlight days, and if his recent roles in movies such as Tenet and The Lighthouse say anything, it’s that this guy has range.
According to IGN, the film will follow a younger Batman as he aims to punish the wicked evildoers of Gotham City. Thankfully, The Batman seems to be lacking all of the Justice League/Superman comic book fluff of its most recent predecessors and is solely delving into the mythology of the Bat himself. The trailer gives us a look at well-known characters such as Alfred Pennyworth, Commissioner Gordon, The Penguin, and Catwoman, while skirting around glimpses of the movie’s main villain, The Riddler. Catwoman, who is being played by Zoë Kravitz, looks like she will be acting as a morally ambiguous love interest throughout the story, and it should be interesting to see how her character is juxtaposed by Pattinson’s gruff vigilante persona.
The Batman is scheduled to hit theaters on March 4th, 2022.
