And you thought IPAs were expensive. Samuel Adams, the popular New England-based brewing company, has announced its newest concoction – a beer running up receipts at $240 a bottle. The beverage is the latest addition to the brewery’s Utopias series, which they release every two years. Despite its rarity, you may still be wondering what makes this beverage worth over two Ben Franklins. Well for starters, the beer is sold in 25.4-ounce bottles. Okay, that’s a lot of beer, but still, 240 smackeroos? Here’s the kicker: the newest Utopias contains 28% alcohol by volume, more than five times as strong as your average brewski. Now I’m listening.
Due to the beer’s high alcohol content, Samuel Adams’ Utopias beer can’t legally be sold throughout fifteen states. These include Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Utah, Vermont, and West Virginia. Sucks to suck I guess? I love beer as much as the next guy, but if I’m going to spend that much cash on booze, it’s probably going to be some top-tier tequila or bourbon. Nevertheless, if fancy brews are your type of thing, and you live outside of those uptight Bible belt states, go ahead and grab yourself a bottle of Utopias when they hit stores on October 11th.
