Did we really think the most successful Netflix show in its history wouldn’t come back for another round? Netflix CEO, Ted Sarandos, confirmed with Variety earlier last week that there will in fact be a second season of the wildly popular South Korean ‘Squid Game’ series. Though no specifics have yet been released about what to expect in the new season, Sarandos clarified “the Squid Game universe has just begun,” hinting there may be more than just 2 seasons following the deadly competition and its daring contestants.
Director Hwang Dong-hyuk first broke the news in a red carpet interview with AP.
There’s been so much pressure, so much demand and so much love for a second season. So I almost feel like you leave us no choice! But I will say there will indeed be a second season.
He even elaborated that “Gi-Hun will come back, and he will do something for the world.” Though no specific dates or time frames have been announced so far, it sounds like the second installment of the series is in the early planning stages of pre-production and is most likely currently being written as well.
Hopefully the South Korean production doesn’t keep people waiting too long for this polarizing show. Personally I can’t wait to see what crazy children’s games turned deadly they decide to incorporate in the next batch of challenges for that massive cash prize. Oh, and of course all the chicks that now will be able to dress up as “sexy Squid Game” contestants next year. That will be a nice touch.
