It’s Time for Your Two Week Minecraft Binge

Minecraft

Modern life can be draining. We may have access to the world’s knowledge at our fingertips, but I can’t help but feel like some part of our primal nature is being repressed. Today’s humans come from a long line of hunters and gatherers – builders and farmers that created society as we know it. It’s these basal instincts of building and domination that dwell within us all, and sooner or later they’ll make themselves known in one way or another. Sure you could drive off to the mountains and build a log cabin. The idea is definitely there, but you may die trying. On the other hand, you could just emulate the experience by retreating to the safety of your living room and firing up the best-selling game of all time. That’s right, it’s Minecraft time baby.

Minecraft

I first played Minecraft when I was in high school, around 2011/2012. Since then it’s been the only game that I consistently return to year after year whenever I’m feeling the urge to drop everything and build. There’s nothing like a little healthy adult escapism to calm the nerves after a long day. The simple freedom to create anything I want and go anywhere I please is just one aspect of the game that makes it a timeless classic. Sure, Minecraft is huge amongst children, and some might consider it a little sad for a full-grown adult to spend hours in a game scored with elevator music, but I say screw the haters. While they’re out stressing about problems in the real world, I’m happily digging my way towards the earth’s core on a quest for diamonds.

Inevitably I’ll run out of ideas for building, or I may just get tired of the game. I’ll log off and return to COD or some RPG for a few months. However, as long as I remain the person that I am, I know the urge to build and craft will show itself again. When it does, I’m sure a two-week Minecraft binge is going to be just what the doctor ordered.
