Please God. PLEASE GOD. PLEASE GOOOOD! Don’t let them mess up this show! A long anticipated reboot of the legendary sitcom, ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,’ is slated for release on NBC’s streaming service, Peacock, on February 13th. With a new face and new name of ‘Bel-Air,’ the series trailer paints a more serious and cinematic take on the story of Will Smith and his transplant from the neighborhood of Philly to the glamor of Bel-Air.
I’ll be honest, when I heard NBC was planning on rebooting this show I had very low expectations. Usually when a show this good is rebooted or given a “reunion” season we get what happened with ‘Fuller House’ (RIP Bob Saget). What an absolute shit show of a season. The difference with this new approach to the story is Will Smith’s direct involvement in the reboot. So far it looks like he’s a direct producer and will most likely dictate how his prized series will be revamped in a new light for younger audiences.
Knowing Will Smith will be deeply involved in the project is reassuring, but please… PLEASE! NBC! I’m begging you, do NOT fuck this up! A whole generation of Fresh Prince fans will not only be devastated by a botched reboot, we’ll never trust you with any other reimagining ever again. For the sake of every person that left Nick at Night on their TV with Fresh Prince playing as a comforting background show, do this one justice.
